CURRENT OPENINGS: LEAD ORGANIZER OPEN POSITION – NOVEMBER 2024

Job Title: Lead Organizer

Hours: 40 hours per week; Work with the supervisor and other staff to schedule work hours that meet the needs of both the employee and the organization.

Location: Remote. Employment based in Rapid City, SD.  Travel to areas of focus in the Black Hills.

Purpose of the Position:  Black Hills Clean Water Alliance is a fifteen-year-old organization that works to protect Black Hills water from exploration for and mining of uranium, gold, and lithium; to clean up old mines and prevent disposal of mining wastes into surface or ground water; and to address the related issue of climate change.  The person in this position will expand the organization’s ability to meet new challenges.

Key Responsibilities and Duties: The person in the Lead Organizer position will work with experienced organizers and other professionals to develop new skills and increase existing skills.  Job activities will focus on taking the lead on BHCWA’s community organizing.  The Lead Organizer will train and work with local residents in various parts of the Black Hills to improve the effectiveness of community organizing efforts.

Academic, Work Skills, and Other Qualifications: A successful person in this position will have the following training, skills, and interests:

  • A strong interest in protecting the Black Hills
  • Some knowledge of the issues that the organization works on
  • At least two years of experience in community organizing preferred, but will consider other types of organizational work, such as events or logistics
  • Good communication skills, including both written and oral communication
  • Can speak in front of groups of people
  • The ability to determine the accuracy of information
  • Relates well to a variety of types of people
  • Works well independently
  • Familiarity with the Black Hills region
  • Two or more years of college preferred
