5K Run/Walk for Clean Water 2022

BE ACTIVE! PROTECT RAPID CREEK!

JOIN US FOR OUR 5K RUN/WALK ALONG MNILUZAHAN (Rapid Creek) – Beginning at 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Location: Old Storybook Island Picnic Shelter, 2911 Canyon Lake Drive, Rapid City, SD – Enter at Parks Department Office at 2915 Canyon Lake Drive.

Medals awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Places! Various Categories with an Elder Special for those 65 or older.

Bring your family and friends to enjoy this special event to bring awareness about needing to protect our clean water supply for us and future generations!

WHY? Gold companies are exploring upstream from Rapid City in the Rapid Creek drainage in the central Black Hill and we need to stop them now!

The Rapid Creek drainage includes Pe’ Sla, Rochford, Mystic, Deerfield, Silver City, and west almost to the Wyoming border. Gold activities are a major threat to Mniluzahan (Rapid Creek), which is the water supply for Rapid City, Ellsworth Air Force Base, agriculture, and smaller reservation and rural communities. The Creek is also a major site for recreation, from Pactola and Deerfield Reservoirs to whitewater kayaking to a blue ribbon trout fishery. Pollution from gold mining in the northern Black Hills can be found all the way downstream to the Missouri River.

We are seeking donations to provide scholarships for the entry fees for individuals. This will include a 5K T-shirt and a light lunch. Please Donate HERE.

The mission of Black Hills Clean Water Alliance, founded in 2009, is to stop current and prevent future radioactive and destructive mining in the Black Hills region to protect our valuable resources – especially our water – for future generations. The Alliance is a diverse collection of citizens concerned about the health, environmental, and economic impacts that irresponsible mining projects would have on our communities, people, economy, and natural resources.
